Return To Work Supplement: Quick Guide and How To Apply ?

Return To Work Supplement

What is the Return to Work Supplement Program?

The Return to Work Supplement program is an initiative designed to help injured workers to return to work or continue working after a work injury. If you are eligible for this program, it will pay for some of the costs associated with getting your life back on track after a work accident.

Who is Eligible for the Return-to-Work Supplement Program?

The Return-to-Work Supplement Program serves the main purpose of providing financial aid to workers who suffered an on-the-job injury. That financial aid comes in a one-time lump sum of $5,000.Not bad, huh? Here is the deal, though: not everyone is eligible for the RTWSP. Our Los Angeles workers’ compensation lawyer explains that only those who were injured on or after January 1, 2013, may be eligible for the one-time, return-to-work supplement to help them get back on their feet. However, it is not that simple. In order to be eligible for the Return-to-Work Supplement, you must have a Supplemental Job Displacement Benefit (SJDB) voucher for that injury. That voucher may be difficult to obtain, which is why it is highly advised to seek the legal advice of one of our experienced lawyers Here. Here are some of the things an injured worker will need to look for when determining eligibility for the SJDB voucher.

  • Date of injury must be on or after January 1, 2013.
  • The injured worker was deemed unable to perform the essential functions of the job; or if the job offered lasted less than 12 months; or the job offered offers wages and compensation below 85 percent of the injured person’s pre injury earnings; or the job offered by the employer is not located within a reasonable commuting distance from the injured workers place of residence.
  • The injured worker must have received a SJDB voucher for that injury.
  • The injured worker must apply by the deadline. RTWSP must receive your application within one year from the date you were mailed the SJDB voucher.

What is a Supplemental Job Displacement Benefit Voucher?

According to Dir of California This information applies for most injuries dated after 01/01/2013. As an injured worker, if you are permanently unable to do your usual job and if your employer does not offer you other work, you may qualify for the SDJB voucher in the amount of $6,000. The aim of this benefit is to provide educational retraining or skills enhancement for injured employees whose employers are unable to provide work following an industrial injury.

For example:  an injured worker may be eligible if she/he is deemed unable to perform the essential functions of the job; or if the job offered lasted for less than 12 months; or if the job offered offers wages and compensation below 85 percent of the injured person’s pre injury earnings; or if the job offered by the employer is not located within a reasonable commuting distance from the injured workers place of residence. Our Experienced attorneys will explore these and more options in order to make sure the client obtains this important benefit.

What Does the Supplemental Job Displacement Benefit Voucher Cover?

The Supplemental Job Displacement Benefit Voucher can be used to pay for educational retraining or for education at a state-approved school. Additionally, the voucher can also be used to pay for necessary education-related expenses like computer equipment, books, tools, fees, and tuition.

When will you get your $5,000?
